| The PAL format (Phase Alternating Line) is the standard-definition television format for the countries of western Europe, including the
 United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Germany and other countries. The
 PAL video format definition is 25 interlaced frames per second, 625
 resolution lines per video frame.
 Home video products for use in Europe should be in the PAL formatto properly display both picture and sound. However, home video
 products manufactured in the NTSC and SECAM television formats
 may image properly on PAL television systems, as those disc players
 often have built-in cross-format compatibility.
 As with other standard television formats, PAL is being phased out•for the generally universal AVCHD high-definition format.
