The Opera House Theatre was built and opened in 1909 by U.S. Martin, who was the mayor of Shepherdstown. Later in the year, the theatre was sold to the Musser family, who installed motion picture projection equipment.

Sound film equipment was installed in the Opera House in 1928. The film venue stopped operations in 1956.

In the late 1980s or early 1990s the building was purchased by Pam and Rusty Berry, who restored the theatre and reopened it in February 1992. Further renovations were completed in 2004 to accomodate live theatre and musical concert performances.
